Uneducated and Conservative
% of People 25 Yrs & Up Who Completed High School divided by Most Conservative States

Finding an association between low education levels and identifying as a conservative. Any surprises?
NOTE: Interpretation of this chart is somewhat unorthodox. Looking at the table view may help make sense of it. For example, Mississippi has an overall score of 1.45, making it white on the map. This score was derived by taking the Percentage of High School Graduates (77%) and dividing it by the score for Most Conservative States (53% of MS residents self-identify as conservative). On the other hand, New Hampshire has an 88% HS graduation rate and a 38% conservative identity. Overall, the darker the state, the more educated and less conservative its population.
People leave high school for many reasons. Poverty and interpersonal conflicts (e.g. within the family, between the student and a teacher) are among the most common causes. People identify as conservative for many reasons (e.g. seeing no value in government services, resenting paying taxes, valuing self-sufficiency, preferring the social status quo to adaptations thereof). On the surface these seem like unrelated conditions.
Yet perhaps there is at least a correlation between being less educated and being conservative. Nearly all Americans graduate from high school in this day and age. Yet the percentage of non-graduates is not evenly distributed across states. Nor is self-identifying as a conservative. To what extent to these factors relate? How could a better chart be constructed to demonstrate this (potential) relationship?
Something as complex as political identity cannot be caused by a single factor. What are some other factors contributing to one's political perspective? Why would someone identify as liberal or conservative (as opposed to just having opinions on issues)? What factors influence that choice?
Could political identity have a cultural component? Could that cultural component be heavily influenced by the level of education one has completed? Consider possible links.

this does not show correlation. maybe the author should himself become educated on the meaning of correlation and do his party a favor.
You need to show that the people who did not complete high school are conservative. My bet is that many -- perhaps a majority -- are Democrats. If so, one of the reasons for being conservative in states with large numbers of the "uneducated" is that one sees, first hand, the ill effects of liberal policies intended to solve social problems.
Wow. I think someone is getting a bit defensive. The numbers don't lie. College towns are largely Democrat (Not liberal). It just happens that way. We tend to read the actual laws as opposed to listening to what the media machine says. Did you happen to graduate anything? Probably not.
Really now? Why is it that you must resort to petty insults. That is one thing I cannot stand amongst both sides. If the only argument you will use is an ad hominem argument then it is simply proof that you yourself know nothing. Also colleges across America are bastions of liberal ideology. A student rarely goes through college without have at least one Marxist as a teacher while the rest are liberals. In colleges students are ridiculed for being conservative. Perhaps I guess I just wish for more dignity.
There's no such thing as dignity when you embrace Conservatism.
lib spin
my friend joe sent me this link.he is a liberal who voted for obama..proof liberals are idiots
I think you just proved the theory that conservatives are more uneducated. Blink twice if you can read this....
I know a Chicago guy who I will call Marky. He was liberal in his younger life. His father worked for the Democratic party . His life took a nose dive when he dropped out of college and he moved to the Republican suburbs of Dupage County. He didn't have the wherewithall to withstand the brainwashing of the conservatives in his neighborhood. He turned into a grumpy Scrooge of a middle-aged man.
Education would have made a big difference in Marky's life.
I know that guy marky,,great guy fantastic neighboor.wised up after seeing chicago fall apart before his very eyes because of democratic rule..got sick paying 10 percent sales tax while watching his property tax skyrocket while the school syatem got worse.didnt want his tax dollars shuffled to the south sides for giveaways and votes.wised up moved to dupage and he obtained the two car garage white picket fence dream..he believed in HIMSELF..congrats marky,,you have ARRIVED.
signed marky's neighboor.uh uh oh
Actually Marky went on welfare, he was denied of course as conservative policy makers needed extra millions for corporate tax breaks...and Markey drew the short end of the stick.
The neighbors of Marky are the ones who brain washed him. He's never had a 6 figure year in his life, but is is hoodwinked into believing in tax breaks for the rich. His wife hears him saying it in his sleep - "Tax breaks for the rich. Tax breaks for the rich."
He thinks he is well off because he has a 2 car gagage. Meanshile, the rich are increasing their net worth by larger and larger percentages and middle-class Marky can't afford to send his boys to a good college.
Thats not true.i was just chatting with him over the fence the other day.His sons are attending private college and are involved in sports as well.I dont think marky has problems with people getting rich quite frankly. The two car garage is a symbol for us suburbanites and constitutes a way of life not so much wealth in money but true riches..you probably dont have much of those types of blessings..you think blessings are in the way of government programs..please stay in the city where you ratz belong..Im happy to have marky for a neighboor..rosie wasnts so happy with you.
The people in his neighborhood all have fences around their property because they are afraid of the people who live in the Section 8 housing that has moved into their town. The recent census has shown that more and more of the Section 8 housing has moved out of Chicago and into Dupage. The middle-class inhabitants have fences and try to put mental fences around their children so they don't date the Section 8 children.
Meanwhile, brainwashed Marky can only send his boys to a neighborhood jr. college. A good university in a universiity town where the boys could have a true college experience is out of reach for him. The boys have to settle for a second class education while they live at home. This perpetuates their narrow view of the world.
gee sir,I think you and i are talking about the wrong guy..this mark is sending his kids to a 40k a year school.you must be thinking about the mark who sent his kid to bradley to learn how to bar tend and fetch spritzers for the women he could never have..
Marky is doing your wife....and your grandmother..congrats.
He wouldn'y spend more than 4 thousand. He is one of the cheapest guys alive. Anyone spending 40 thou on something like education must be a Democrat.
This Mark used to be a broker and, now, is an order taker for smarter people. He can't even afford to live where the brokers live. He makes his wife do nails just to get by.
no,i still think u are mistaken,,this mark bought a brand new honda crv, that alone is upper 20's. i heard he paid cash too.his punk son drives a newre model accura so i think you may have the wrong guy..this mark just bought a brand new 55 inch samsung led tv..i saw the box on his concrete two car wide driveway..sounds like you really want to move out that way...sorry sir..you liberals are all alike...you ruin stuff and then want to move and ruin more..no thanks
Above comment..straight from a trailer park...You probably have a collection of spores and fungus under your bed as well.
Yes. That's him. Years ago, his lifestyle would be called "AfricanAmerican rich." He spends all his money on material things and doesn't value education. He dropped out of a community college himself. He thinks that's good enough for his children. If they get too smart, they would become liberal.
african american rich...theres the liberal hypocrisy..and it only took 4 posts...game set match
The only match Marky has is the man at the dirty bookstore in Melrose Park.
When are both sides going to get that they can't insult or reason the other side over to their side. Clearly, both are not the sharpest tools in the shed. Funny sport, trolling and blogging. The world was a better place before the internet gave these people a voice for their prejudices.
Es la imagen que saldría de mi cabeza cuando me despierto 5 minutos tarde, una peazo exclamación al estilo Metal Gear.
This really only shows that in more conservative states, the conservative voting population favors less funding for education, thus leading to a higher dropout rate
Wow, that's what I get for stopping to read this crap. Anonymous was right, you guys are never going to get anywhere by throwing misguided insults at one another.
Actually, traditional liberal groups are much less educated than traditional conservative groups. Illegal immigrants aren't usually college graduates, nor are convicted criminals or welfare recipients.
I was ralely confused, and this answered all my questions.
