it’s imposadsiadble to do Taido for free. I’ve run aa0sucadcessadful club for “free,” but Ia0won’t be tryading ita0again.My main point is that it doesn’t have to be either/or. It’s not as if, the secadond money chnages hands, everyadthing needs to be taladlied and baladanced in the ledger. You can charge money (which you’re already doing, because your national org, WTF, and Honin will require dues) and still have peoadple be happy to be there. My arguadment is simadple that, if you’re going to charge dues, you may as well charge extra and begin savading those funds for varadiadous things.Even in aa0comadmeradcial school, there can be aa0lot of voladunadteer effort that makes things work betadter for everyadone. Ia0don’t think money is the only viable reward or that everyadone should get paid for everyadthing. But if money is availadable, it’s easadier to reward voladunadteers in non-monetary ways as well. You can throw aa0party withadout askading peoadple to bring their own drinks, etc. You also can’t foradget that doing things for free as aa0stuaddent is not the sitaduadaadtion most teachaders will be runadning aa0dojo under. Universities have aa0lot of “free” stuff that’s actuadally supadported by fees and taxes. Students have aa0lot of time on their hands, but with aa0job and aa0famadily and responadsiadbiladiadties, Ia0know aa0lot of adults would rather just pay aa0monthly fee than have to orgaadnize aa0car wash every time they need funds for events or whatever. Still, chargading money does not preadclude takading advanadtage of free resources. It also doesn’t mean you can’t have fun and build an org in which peoadple are intrinadsiadcally motiadvated to voladunadteer and helpa0out. So yeah, free is cool if it’s done right, but it can also be aa0cop out for peoadple to do things with minadiadmal effort (which breeds minadiadmal results). My prefaderadence is to charge money so we have it when we needa0it.
